Meet the Nia Teachers

Melissa Diaz

Melissa Diaz found Nia in 2010 during her early college years. Melissa always had a passion for dancing and was drawn to Nia immediately. Soon after discovering Nia, Melissa was in a car accident which led to chiropractic treatment and physical therapy. During this time, she continued Nia and realized the healing it could bring; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Melissa was determined to learn more, taking her White Belt in 2015 and continuing her education, graduating with a BS in Kinesiology. Melissa’s goal is to share with others the healing power, the aliveness and the Joy Nia has brought her and continues to provide.

River Plumb

River Plumb is a 1st Degree Black Belt Nia instructor from Kansas City. Having grown up with chronic pain, his life was forever changed when he discovered the self-healing potential of his body during the Nia White Belt Intensive. River’s personal path has been a journey of self-healing, and he seeks to bring healing to others.

His teaching is centered around the cultivation of joy through simplicity and play. Using imagery and imagination, he makes anatomy and physiology come alive through fun and digestible lessons. River’s classes are easy to follow and adaptable to all levels from beginner to athlete. Taking classes with River will help you feel better, move better, and ultimately live better by cultivating a loving relationship with your body.

Christy Cantrell

Christy Cantrell is from Ventura, CA. Christy is a Brown Belt, she has been practicing nice since 2005 -18 years!
Christy was dragged into her first Nia class and fell in love with the first song and the first moves! The practice of Nia conditions, energizes and enables Christy to physically/mentally/emotionally and spiritually pursue what she want to on a daily basis.

Paula Chambers

Paula Chambers is a 2nd Degree Black Belt from Los Angeles whose teaching highlights the mental health benefits of Nia, such as mindfulness, self-love, resilience and empowerment. She normally only teaches online, so this is a great opportunity to experience Paula in person.

Paul Duff

Root and Bloom Workshop with River Plumb

Join 1st Degree Black Belt Nia instructor River Plumb for this in-depth workshop exploring the form and function of the base of our bodies. In this 2-hour workshop we will be using Nia’s 3 step methodology for embodying the form of each of the 27 base moves in order to create safety and stability from the ground up. By connecting to our base, we can establish nourishing roots to support freedom of movement in our spines and upper extremities. This will allow for greater expression in our dance and more joy in our bodies. The techniques learned in this workshop will give you the tools to bring about self-healing and personalized conditioning from head to toe.
